Training Format
Training should be in the form of supervised apprenticeship
and perceptorship with emphasis on one to one teaching from the mentor. Center based
training rather than surgeon based training in view of the high turnover rate. There
should be strong commitment to teaching of the fellow as judged by time allowed
for didactic sessions, case presentations, journal reading, formal discussions,
interest in clinical and basic research and studies / publications by fellows. The
trainee should be provided with time and space for individual study and access to
the relevant facilities.
